Wahaca Southampton

Wahaca onion intolerance review

Hey everyone! I hope you're all well and you've been enjoying the lovely weather! Last week I went to Wahaca in Southampton and I was actually really happy with everything so I thought I would share my experience with you :) And to make it even better, you get chilli seeds at the end so I will try to plant them and see how they grow! :)

So we went on Taco Tuesdays and they had a deal where you get 3 mini classic tacos for £1 when you buy something else. So I ended up going for the Black Bean and Cheese Quesadillas and the Plantain and Feta Tacos and I really enjoyed them! I was also hoping to have Churros because I love them so much :') But I was full and ended up taking some of my food home so sadly it was a no to Churros. And I also had the passion fruit and hibiscus cooler which was quite refreshing :)

So I have a sort of new found onion intolerance :') yay! It's not too bad, I get like indigestion and bit of nausea and I feel like I have a burning pit inside my stomach and these symptoms usually last a few days. So if I do eat onion it's not the end of the world but I prefer not to because it's gotten to the stage where I don't feel the meal was worth it. So I've actually tried to cut out any form of onion even onion powder out of my diet for the last few months and I'm feeling much better now. However, it can be a pain because pretty much everything has onion in it :') So I went to Wahaca with some work colleagues and to be honest I was kind of prepared to eat something with onion in it and just put up with it for a few days. Stupidly I forgot to inform them before I went, because I think that's what people do? I guess because it's not an allergy it didn't cross my mind. So when we got there I had a look at the menu and I thought I would ask whether there was anything on the menu that didn't have onion in it. The staff were so friendly and attentive and we kept going back and forth and between the kitchen and it was actually so lovely that they went to so much effort. And so after lots of back and forth it actually turned out that pretty much everything had onion or was in a sauce with onion or had been marinated in something containing onion XD

ANYWAYS! So they were super kind and made a separate variation of a meal that didn't contain any traces of onion and it was actually still really tasty! I'm actually so impressed with how accomodating they were! I guess they would have to be, say if someone came in with an actual allergy it could be life threatening but they were really nice and friendly and helpful and weren't rude and didn't make me feel bad, so I really appreciated it! I really enjoyed my meal and I would actually go again, now that I know that it's safe to eat haha :)

So that was my experience at Wahaca and I would gladly go again! Everyone else enjoyed their meal and I was really happy with the service that I received which definitely made a difference to the whole experience. I was initially really worried that I wouldn't be able to eat out anywhere anymore but I'm glad that there are some places that can be really nice and accommodating :)

  1. It is great they were so forthcoming. The service is such an important factor in any dining experience. When the waiters (and kitchen staff) are friendly, it makes the whole restaurant experience much more enjoyable. Seems like the staff at Wahaca is very nice!

Anyway, I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your food there. It is great they were able to come up with something that was onion free. When a certain food (or food type) bothers us, it is better to avoid it altogether. No need to suffer for no reason I always say.

The images are so lovely...you make me want to eat something immediately...and I might just do that!:)

  19. That sucks about the onions! They’re in almost every main dish! Maybe you can go get it checked out at the doctor’s? The passionfruit & hibiscus cooler sounds amazing! & those sauces look so relish! Your post made me hungry & it’s not even 9am here (& I just had breakfast) haha
