DIY Music Folder

Hey everyone! Hope you're all well! For today's post I thought I would share this little DIY that I did on the weekend. I needed something to put my piano books in so I thought I would decorate this folder box thing! At Uni/work/PhD land I have a black digital piano and at the base there is some space which I thought would be perfect for storing my books as at the moment I have them piled on top and it's not the tidiest :)

You will need:

Folder (mine is cardboard)
Black Paint (matte tester paint pot from Homebase)
Paintbrush
White Pen (I think it's a gel pen: WHSmiths £1.99)
Design- from imagination or printout
Tracing paper/baking paper
Pencil

So to start off with I painted the entire folder black. I decided to use a matte paint as I thought it would look nicer than a shiny one.

I found my image online and I copy and pasted it into Word. I then resized it to my desired size and flipped the image so it was back to front. This is so that when I eventually transferred the design to my folder it would be facing the correct way. I also put a mini version of the design in the correct orientation so that I could refer back to it and I printed this off.

I took some baking paper because I didn't have any tracing paper (it does the job) and traced my basic outline using a pencil.

I flipped my paper over and placed it on top of the folder where I wanted it and re-drew over the back of my traced outline so that it would transfer onto the folder.

Using my white pen I went over the basic outline of the treble clef. I then slowly went over these lines until they were my desired thickness and I was happy with them. I then drew the outline of the flower motif, thickened it up and then drew the swirly motifs and thickened them. I preferred doing it this way and splitting it into sections however you don't have to :)

Easy DIY folder music box books decoupage paint white pen treble clef motif music piano

And that was it! So it's a really easy DIY, it didn't take that long and I think it looks really good! (modest much haha!) I'm now thinking of my next ideas XD

There's also a video tutorial of basically the same thing haha! :)
