The Sale was held in the Engine Rooms in Southampton, which I believe is basically a warehouse kind of thing with a bar and stage so I think there are gigs and events and different nights there or whatever. And the place was filled with rails of vintage and retro clothing. I'm not sure from what era but it seemed kind of.. 80s/90s maybe? Rather than like 50s vintage :) And the majority of clothing (except for a separate section which was individually priced) was £15 per kilo which I think is really reasonable! :)
The event was from 10am-4pm. Traders and bloggers were allowed to go at 10 which was nice as I guess we were able to have first pick of everything and it made taking photos so much easier haha! And then it was open to the general public at 11am for £3 and from 12 it was £1.50 on the door although if you went with a friend it was 2for1 on tickets so not very expensive at all! :)
I got there at about 10:30 and people were already queuing outside! And when I left at around 11:15 the queue was all the way down the street!
I must admit I was a little bit out of my comfort area.. I ended up going on my own and I didn't really know what to expect and I guess some of the clothing was quite different to what I would usually wear, but I'm glad that I went! There were loads of flannel shirts, t-shirts and loaaads of jumpers! And then other bits on bobs and it all pretty much seems unisex. I didn't end up buying anything.. there was a really lovely fur coat (I'm hoping faux!) but it was a bit too big and then there were some cute denim dungarees but again they looked a bit too big which was a shame! :)
It was a little bit intimidating when the doors opened to the public as loads of people came in trying to find the best pieces as quick as they could! I bet it was manic later on! :)
So that was my experience of my first trip to a vintage kilo sale and I'm glad I went! I'll probably go to the next one in a few months and hopefully there will be some more summery bits and pieces and I'll probably take a friend next time :)

This event sounds great! It is always a great idea to hold a vintage sale....because vintage clothes are not only unique, they are usually very durable and (in most cases) of better quality than today's clothing. So, it is always nice to have some vintage piece.
ReplyDeleteIn Split, there is one second hand shop that sells clothes using this kilo method. It is great. Once I bought tons of things there and I payed everything something like five euros.
Such a cool experience!!! Thanks for sharing!

I actually always wanted to find a sale where you can buy clothes by the weight. So exciting but I can definitely see it being stressful when there's so much to look through and so many people, haha!

I like the idea of having a fixed price on certain items depending on how many kilos you pic up, that's cool! I'll have to keep an eye out for one of these happening near me and go along one day as it sounds interesting. Glad you enjoyed it! - Tasha

It's great to hear your perspective on an event like this Nevena, I've never tried anything like this before and so I can imagine how daunting it must have been when the doors opened to let more people through! Anyway, although you didn't buy anything, it's an experience ticked off your list :)
