Hey everyone! I hope you're all well! Before Easter, Pardis and I went to Bournemouth for the day and it was really lovely overall! We bought a Leisure Pass and Afternoon Tea deal for two on Groupon at the Royal Bath Hotel in Bournemouth for £25 for 2 people and thought we'd make a little day out of it. So we went to the gym, had a swim and went to the steam room. Afterwards we had afternoon tea and then after that we walked from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe Pier, had a little break and ate some chips then headed back home :)
The hotel was called The Royal Bath Hotel and it's pretty much directly opposite the beach and super close to Bournemouth Pier. Inside the hotel, it looked like the kind of place that used to be really good and prestigious back in the day but it's just a bit run down now, still nice enough though but it has that kind of feel about it XD The gardens were really nice, I guess it's easier to keep on top of gardening and landscaping than redecorating a giant hotel. Of course, I was worrying about parking because that is what I like to worry about, luckily there's a council car park about 2 minutes away where you can park all day for £4.50 which I thought is really good considering it's so close to the beach.. I suspect it's completely full during the Summer!
I thought the Groupon deal was nice enough, we had a really nice day and it was great to do something different so I'm really glad that we went, but I wouldn't go to that particular place again.. Basically the hotel was okay, it's part of Royal Brittania so I guess I had high expectations, the staff were friendly, the leisure facilities were okay, pretty basic but we managed to do a bit of gym, swimming and steam room so that was all fine to be honest. What let it down for me was the Afternoon Tea part.. I just thought it was average.. It was all edible so that's fine and I was hungry from the little bit of exercise that I did.. But I did expect better! I thought the sandwiches were bland and stale, the scone was the best part but we only got one each which was a shame, and then the cake selection included literally a bite of brownie each, Victoria sponge and a nut cake.. So I couldn't eat the nut cake because it had walnuts in it (Silly me for not checking before we went). The bite of brownie was quite nice, would have been nice if it was bigger.. and the Victoria sponge was kind of greasy and a bit stale too.. I kind of got the impression that they make the afternoon tea's at the beginning of the week, wrap the plate in cling film and bring it out like that so everything is edible still because it's not mouldy but it's stale :') Gosh I'm proper going into town on their afternoon tea haha! Maybe we just had an average experience but I wouldn't recommend afternoon tea there.. I think you're better off packing a picnic and eating it on the beach, the sand would still probably taste nicer XD ouch.
So yes that was our day out in Bournemouth. Overall it was a really great day and very relaxing and we made the most of it, but I definitely feel that the Afternoon Tea let it down a bit, I think next time we will stick to a picnic :) I don't feel at all like we wasted our money because we still enjoyed ourselves, but I wouldn't really recommend it as such, maybe we were a bit unluckier but we still had a really nice day out and it was nice to do something different :)
